Meditation begins at 5:30 pm MT\, followed by the Dharma Talk (teisho) at 6:00 pm MT \nYou are invited to join us for an evening with David Hinton at Mountain Cloud Zen Center’s zendo on Thursday\, July 11th\, where he will be leading a Dharma Talk\, that focuses on their text The Blue-Cliff Record .”The Blue-Cliff Record a collection of Ch’an (Zen) koans stemming from the eleventh century\, is a remarkable masterwork of classical Chinese literature\, a philosophical text of profound power\, and an active practice guide in use by Ch’an and Zen Buddhists all over the world. Rendered with his trademark lyricism and philosophical rigor\, this new edition from renowned translator David Hinton presents a whole new Blue-Cliff Record. This widely-acclaimed work has earned Hinton a Guggenheim Fellowship\, numerous fellowships from NEA and NEH\, and both of the major awards given for poetry translation in the United States: the Landon Translation Award (Academy of American Poets) and the PEN American Translation Award. Most recently\, Hinton received a lifetime achievement award by the American Academy of Arts and Letters. \n∞ \nDharma Talk often referred to as a “teisho” in Zen Buddhism\, is a discourse or lecture given by a teacher to convey teachings on Buddhist philosophy\, principles\, and practice. During a Dharma talk\, the teacher may explore various aspects of Buddhist doctrine\, share insights from personal experience\, and offer guidance to the audience on how to apply these teachings in their lives. The purpose is to deepen understanding\, inspire contemplation\, and support the development of mindfulness and wisdom among the practitioners.
