SUMMARY:The Precepts Study Group
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, May 10th  |  9:00 – 10:15 AM Mountain Time (US & Canada)\nSemi-monthly on Saturdays ~ Meets Online; Members only \nZen Teacher Nancy Mujo Baker will attend nearly every session of our ongoing Precepts Study Group\, based on her book\, Opening to Oneness. We welcome all levels of participation from members\, whether you can join every session and complete all exercises or just drop in occasionally. Rolling enrollment continues till the end\, so it’s never too late to join! Email kieran@mountaincloud.org to receive email updates about homework and such. \nNancy’s Opening to Oneness brings the Zen ethical precepts vividly to life\, from gross to subtlest levels. At subtler levels\, “non-killing\,” “non-stealing” or “non-lying” become less a matter of restraint than of the spontaneous alchemy that takes place whenever our inner “liar\,” “stealer” etc feel the touch of free awareness. To that end\, Nancy encourages a spirit – not of trying to stamp out our infractions of precepts – but instead of the thrill of discovery. What all moves in me? How do I steal? How do I lie? What do I feel I lack? What am I protecting when I lie? \nThe first half of the book works through the ten grave precepts chapter by chapter. The second half connects the precepts to depths of nonduality\, in conversation with the great Eihei Dogen – and\, along the way\, illuminates his thought quite powerfully. \nFor information on how to join\, including the Zoom link\, become a member at Mountain Cloud. \nIt’s a Buddhist tradition to offer a financial gratitude gift to the teacher. You can use these payment methods: paypal: nancyebaker@earthlink.net \n\n\n\n\n∞ \nNancy Mujo Baker Roshi is a distinguished Zen teacher and writer\, renowned as the founding teacher of the No Traces Sangha within the lineage of Maezumi Roshi’s White Plum Sangha. Recognized as a Dharma successor to Bernie Glassman\, she holds the esteemed position of being among the first fully empowered lay Soto Zen teachers. With over forty years of teaching experience\, she served as a Professor Emerita of Philosophy at Sarah Lawrence College. Currently residing in New York City\, she brings a wealth of wisdom and insight to her teachings. We had the privilege of featuring one of her essays\, “Sitting No-where\, Leaving no Traces\,” on our website previously. You can read it by clicking here.
