Message from Henry: Dharma Reflections

January 3, 2017

Lest we think silence is the place to hide a heavy heart, remember to love and be loved is life itself, without which we are naught.

-Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins

In how many ways is the dharma is preached? The Vimalakirti Nirdesa Sutra speaks of worlds composed of fragrances where the dharma is preached by fragrance, others with only animals where it’s preached by animals, some where it’s preached by trees, others by sounds, sights, touch and sensation.Where are these many worlds? How many worlds and universes are there?

Strange that there might actually be answers to these questions… And that the Dharma, and the preaching of the Dharma, is not only the path by which answers may be found, but actually is what preaching the Dharma means: it means finding the answer to the question, how many universes are there; and also knowing now where that answer is taking place.

This training – if someone really decides to do it, it may in a sense become the most important thing in their life. And if they don’t, it won’t.

From a play written by Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins:

Lest we think silence is the place to hide a heavy heart, remember to love and be loved is life itself, without which we are naught.

The Dharma is the discovery of universal boundless inclusiveness, which could very well be called universal love.
