Extended interviews are scheduled in 10 minute increments and are generally for Henry’s students. If you are new to Mountain Cloud and would like to learn more about Zen and our center, please attend a few sessions of the Introduction to Meditation Class on Wednesday at 5pm before requesting a private interview with Henry. The class is free, no need to sign up. All are invited and welcome to attend.

Registration is closed. Our next six day sesshin is September 16-22.

Prepare for summer! Consider joining us for our 2019 Summer Sesshin, six-days, from Monday June 17 through Sunday June 23. All are warmly invited to attend this summer solstice event.

Each day begins at 6am and concludes at 9pm. Most of our sits will be in the zendo but there will also be outdoor practice, both walking and sitting, and we will use some of the samu (work) time to tend the Mountain Cloud land.

Sliding Fee Scale is $380 – $530

Payments that exceed $400 contribute to our 
scholarship fund and are tax deductible

Payment is for the entire sesshin and cost is the same for both residents and commuters (except for single rooms) Financial aid is available, please click here for our financial aid policy and application.

Single Rooms:  We have a limited number of single rooms available for an additional fee of $240 for the six nights. Please check with Johanna for availability, before registering for a single room.

Camping:  If you’d like, you are welcome to camp on our beautiful land. Cost remains the same. Let us know if you want to camp.

Please sign up and make your payment by June 10. If you don’t want to pay online, please bring (or mail) a check or cash to Mountain Cloud by June 10, or make an arrangement with Johanna. Also, no refunds after June 10.

Join us for this weekend retreat beginning on Friday evening August 23, 2019 and ending at lunch-time on Sunday August 25. If you have never done a Zen retreat,  are new to sitting practice, returning to practice, or would simply enjoy a few days of extended sitting practice…. this weekend is for you.

We provide instruction and extra support for those beginning their journey with Zen. If you have been uncertain about signing up for one of our six or seven day retreats, this weekend is a great way to start.

Please note: We will be closed for our summer break the first two weeks of August and will reopen on Monday August 19, Don’t let that deter you from signing up for this retreat. Registration continues throughout the break. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have questions during that time.

Our 2019 6-day Autumn sesshin begins September 16 and ends on Sunday September 22.  Join us for this period of deep practice; sink into the boundless reality of the Dharma, finding the ease and joy in being human that Dogen speaks of as the characteristics of true meditation practice.

Sliding Scale:  $380 – $530

Join us for our 7-day Rohatsu Sesshin from Sunday December 1 through Sunday December 8, 2019. This annual deep winter event is an incomparable opportunity to deepen our practice, and to sink into the boundless reality of the Dharma as we commemorate Shakyamuni’s awakening. Join us for this powerful week of practice.

Cost is on a sliding scale: $425 to $575

Payments that exceed $475 contribute to our 
scholarship fund and are tax deductible

Please note: Sesshin is a rigorous and at times challenging meditation retreat that is not necessarily recommended for beginners. If you have not previously done extended sitting or participated in one of our weekend Introductory retreats, please let us know and we can help you decide if perhaps another retreat is a better starting place for you.

North American Sanbo Zen (NASZ) Sesshin 2020

Mountain Cloud Zen Center will host the 2020 North American Sanbo Zen Retreat, led by Yamada Ryoun Roshi, 4th abbot of Sanbo Zen of Kamakura, Japan, Thursday April 30, 5pm – Tuesday May 5, 1pm.   The event will be held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) Retreat and Conference Center.

Registration will open in early 2020.

We have a lot going on at Mountain Cloud this spring and summer including a 5-day retreat led by our Abbot from Japan and attended by the international Sanbo Zen community, and two 6-day retreats for our immediate sangha. If these 5-6 day retreats seem like too much, and you’d like something shorter, or less daunting, try this weekend retreat.

Beginning on Friday evening May 22, 2029 and ending at lunch-time on Sunday May 24 this Zen retreat is ideal for those new to sitting practice, those returning to practice, or long term practitioners who would simply enjoy a few days of extended zazen practice.

We provide instruction and extra support for those beginning their journey with Zen. If you have been uncertain about signing up for one of our six or seven day retreats, this weekend is a great way to start.
