Mountain Cloud is available on a rolling basis for personal retreats. Perched on the outskirts of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Mountain Cloud is an adobe zendo offering common areas for meditation, numerous outdoor paths for contemplative walks, and an array of private living spaces. BUDDHA (practice)
- 24 hour access to our beautiful adobe zendo and hiking trails through 20+ acres of high desert landscape
DHARMA (teaching)
- Attend weekly dharma talks and programs live
- Students of Valerie and Scott will have the opportunity to do dokusan live
- Enjoy our rich library of dharma books
SANGHA (community)
- Meditate with Sangha during daily zazen schedule
- Attend book-study with residents and sangha
Logistics
Mountain Cloud Zen Center is a 15-minute drive from public transportation and the town center.
Residents are responsible for their own meals and transportation, and are invited to the full use of our kitchen and refrigerators. We ask that no meat be cooked in our kitchen.
MCZC offers basic housekeeping, supplies, and provisions such as tea and pantry essentials; residents are expected to supply their own food.
In accordance with MCZC’s values, all residents are expected to adhere to the organization’s equity and inclusion principles, as well as follow the and COVID-19 Protocols.

Become a member and save on your stay! Note: membership discounts require an annual membership, or at least 12 months of monthly membership
- Bookings should be at least 1 week in advance. Exceptions can be made only upon consultation with the on-the-ground team (must confirm that rooms are ready and they are available, etc…)
- Reservations are confirmed once invoice has been paid.
- In the event of cancellation, Mountain Cloud will provide a 50% refund. Reservation dates can be adjusted at no additional cost (pending availability).
What to Expect
You can participate in any amount of the Zen Center’s regular schedule of public offerings.
The weekly schedule includes:
- Daily Zazen: morning and evening sitting Monday through Friday, morning sitting Saturdays and Sundays
- Wisdom Wednesday workshop every Wednesday evening
- Dharma Talk every Thursday evening
- Intro Class on Sunday mornings

On a monthly basis, Mountain Cloud hosts additional events such as:
- Sangha Samu (Work Practice) Days
- SocialiZen (a peer learning study group)
- Opportunity to volunteer to cook and serve meals at our local homeless shelter.
Refer to our monthly schedule to check for any overlap between your stay, these events, or for zazenkai (daylongs) and retreats.
A hypothetical day in your personal retreat…
- 7:00 – Zazen with Sangha
- 9:00 – Join residents for book study
- 10:00 – Take a hike on the land
- 11:00 – Select a book from the Zendo library and unwind on a hammock nestled in the woods as you delve into its pages
- 1:00pm – Sit within the zendo
- 2:00pm – Review emails within the center common areas
- 4:00pm – Dokusan with Valerie in- person
- 5:30pm Dharma Talk and Zazen
- 7pm – Experience the sunset over the Santa Fe Valley from our scenic viewing benches.
- 9pm – Marvel at the Milky Way from the porch of your cabin
