2024 Abundant Future Campaign

Be a part of Mountain Cloud’s Abundant Future!

This campaign builds upon the momentum of our recent gift from David Holt (which is covering key deferred maintenance work at the center). While taking those important steps to shore up Mountain Cloud, the Abundant Future Campaign empowers us to go further. Abundant Future is about making thoughtful and timely program and campus improvements to make the center a more welcoming, comfortable, and accessible place for the dharma to flourish.

Our goal is to raise  $60,000  by the end of the year so that we can make key and time-sensitive improvements to help Mountain Cloud enjoy its full potential as our practice home.

Our very own Guiding Teacher, Valerie Forstman, believes so deeply in the gifts of Mountain Cloud Zen Center, that she has made a personal contribution of $30,000 to the Abundant Future Campaign. With her boundless generosity and earnest support, we are halfway to our goal.

The Abundant Future Campaign empowers us to:

  1. Provide staffing, outreach, and marketing for opportunities for newcomers including: Basics of Buddhism & Zen 101 classes, and Online Intro Class
  2. Invest outreach and marketing towards our residency program to ensure a lively community presence and consistent container for deep practice on campus
  3. Revitalize our hiking trails, add signs throughout the trail network, create an illustrated campus map, sitting benches, and areas for gathering on and engaging with the land
  4. Expand our camping amenities, adding pathways and lighting, and fortifying sites
  5. Create a large welcome sign at the roadside of our campus to welcome seekers in, and an outdoor bulletin board to help communicate about the lively goings on at the center.
  6. Replace outdated furnishings and linens in our lodging to ensure a truly comfortable, supportive, and restful stay for participants
  7. Begin the planning process for developing glamping sites, a bathhouse, and expanding our meeting and dining spaces

When I was in residency at Mountain Cloud in 2017, (then, still a “guinea pig” program), I remember walking into the dining hall just as the Board was wrapping up a Strategic Planning Meeting. Folks were all in good cheer, still chattering and laughing together as they gathered up their notebooks to clear out the room. On the wall hung several note-riddled poster papers. Among them one stood out – in large capital letters, filling up the page, it said, “LET THE DHARMA GUSH”. There was no target date set for that strategic goal, because this is a job that is always underway, never done. Just like our practice.” – Sarah Giffin, Executive Director

Dana for Valerie can be given directly to her at: paypal.me/vforstman

Dana is not tax deductible but is a beautiful way to support our teachers. In Buddhist tradition, students offer dana to the teacher as a show of gratitude.
