Caring for the Meditators Body: Workshop for Members
Caring for the Meditator’s Body: Live Workshop with Shana Smith and Sarah Gustafson
Sunday January 21 from 12:30pm – 2pm MT on Zoom
For this month’s Members Offering, we are excited to bring together two experienced movement experts from our Sangha. They will share valuable insights on how we can effectively care for our bodies, offering preparation and support for our practice. The workshop will include learnings through discussion, experiential exercises, and Q&A. Please wear comfy clothes for easy access to the following: a meditation cushion or chair with a pillow/zafu (whatever normal sitting scenario you usually use), a chair, a yoga mat, a blanket, and a yoga strap (or a long scarf). Members, please join us and feel free to bring a friend.

About Your Teachers

A Prajna Yoga teacher, Sarah Gustafson guides movement, mindfulness, and meditation from her home in Los Alamos, New Mexico. She had the good fortune to facilitate small sharing groups in the 2022 Original Love program, and to serve as a mentor for the 2023 OL Mindfulness Facilitator Training Program. Sarah’s also engaged in an intensive two-year Dharma training program through Sacred Mountain Sangha, which integrates Theravāda and Mahāyāna teachings and practices, along with guidance for engaging in sacred activism. When she’s not on the mat, she’s probably outside growing food and flowers, hiking, or rock climbing with her husband and dogs.
Shana Smith is a 500 hour registered yoga teacher and assistant teacher with Sanbo Zen International, based in both St. Petersburg and Gainesville, Florida. Like Sarah Gustafson, she has had the honor of being both an Original Love Facilitator and Mindfulness Facilitator Training Mentor. Shana‘s journey into Zen was launched when she began a committed yoga practice in 1990. After several years of ardent practice and study, she started to teach yoga and lead kirtan, and became interested in the sensations and insights she experienced in Savasana. This interest led her to a regular daily meditation practice in 2004. In 2007, she tookrefuge in the Sanbo Zen Lineage with Valerie Forstman Roshi. Over the years, she has found a tremendous synergy between Yoga and Zen, and integrates the two in her daily, committed practice. She is also a singer/songwriter, author, and mother of two teenagers. www.oaktreeinthegarden.com
