Wisdom Wednesday: “Pilgrimage, Nature, and the Dharma” with Laura and Patrick McCarthy

Wednesday, July 8th | 5:30–6:30 PM
Meditation begins at 5:30 pm MT, followed by the practice share and discussion at 6:00 pm MT
Led by Laura and Patrick McCarthy, this evening features meditation, a brief practice share, an opportunity to ask questions, and a chance to share your experiences with practice.
Sangha members Laura and Patrick will share stories from their recent dharma pilgrimage through California’s Ventana Wilderness. Drawing briefly on the ancient tradition of Buddhist journeying, they’ll open a dialogue about Mountain Cloud Zen Center as a place of pilgrimage.
These sessions are designed to enhance your practice and also provide an opportunity to connect with the local sangha community. This hybrid event is free and registration is not required. Please arrive five to ten minutes ahead of the scheduled time.

Laura McCarthy is a forester by profession and an outdoor adventurer in her heart and spirit. She and her husband Patrick moved to New Mexico together in 1996 and have been here ever since. She has worked for the U.S. Forest Service, Forest Stewards Guild and The Nature Conservancy, and has served two terms as New Mexico State Forester. She has been a wildland firefighter and field forester and now works as a manager and policymaker. Her favorite backcountry sports are trail running and telemark skiing, and her in-town hobbies are vegetable gardening and hand quilting. Laura has been a Mountain Cloud member since 2020.
Patrick McCarthy grew up exploring the rivers and lakes of Michigan, where he fell in love with natural history, ecology, and conservation. After a long career with the Peace Corps (in the Democratic Republic of Congo), The Nature Conservancy (in New England, southern Africa, and the Southwest), and leading a water policy initiative in New Mexico, he is exploring new directions and happily leaning into hiking, biking, music, baking, and nature study. Patrick has been a Mountain Cloud member since 2020 and a board member for the past two years.
