Wild World of Koans: 15 Day Online Course
Sunday July 23 – Sunday August 6th
This course is for you if you are already working with koans or are curious about using them to stoke the fires of your meditation.
As Henry tells us,
Koans are not riddles.
They are not talking points for discussion.
They are not devices to be used for psychodrama.
Nor are they checklists to be knocked off in some deluded idea of progress….
They are opportunities to change the way we experience our very lives. They grant us the chance to change our experience from something shallow, two-dimensional, paper-dry, to something of limitless depth and unbounded dimension, and infinite potential.
Over this 15-Day Course, you will receive:
-
4 Talks on Koans and how they transform our practice. This series created by Henry Shukman and Valerie Forstman and first delivered at a 2022 retreat, covers the legacy of koans that have been passed down through our Zen lineage and how we work on them and how they work on us.
-
4 Pre-recorded Q&As (also from Henry and Valerie’s 2022 retreat)
- Sangha Forum & Guided Reflections via email throughout the course to direct your engagement with the content.
-
3 Live Workshops. Workshops will include lively group discussion and guidance from our teachers, Sanbo Zen Associate Master Valerie Forstman, and Assistant Teacher Scott Thornton. They are recorded for those who can’t attend live.
-
Sundays July 23, July 30 and August 6 from 11-12:15pm MT
-
-
Daily encouragement, resources and opportunities to meditate with your cohort
How it Works
The course schedule is designed to help you build momentum and dive deep into the material and engage directly with a teacher, while remaining flexible to your everyday schedule.
Each day of the program, you will receive something new– a talk from Valerie or Henry, a guided reflection or practice prompt that builds on that talk, a prerecorded Q&A about the talk, or opportunity to workshop your questions and insights in a live session with our teacher.
Talks, Guided Meditations, and Live Workshops will be hosted via our online forum, and all recordings will be shared so that you can view content on your own schedule.
We believe in making our offerings accessible. Please inquire with Johanna at mczcadmin@mountaincloud.org for more information about needs-based discounts.
