Zazen and Dharmette with David Loy

Silent sitting meditation. Open to all.

This sit occurs both online via Zoom and in-person at Mountain Cloud Zen Center.

During the month of May, as part of Mountain Cloud’s Ecodharma Residency month, guest teacher David Loy will be offering a 15-minute Dharmette (short Dharma talk) on Mondays and Fridays during the morning Zazen period. On these days, there will be one round of 25-minute sitting, 5 minutes of walking meditation, another 10 minutes of sitting, and finally David’s Dharmette.

Zazen, derived from the Japanese term meaning ‘sitting meditation’, is a cornerstone practice in Zen Buddhism. At its essence, Zazen is the act of simply sitting, yet it encompasses much more than mere physical stillness. Practitioners engage in Zazen with a deliberate posture and mental focus unique to Zen meditation, emphasizing mindfulness and awareness of breath. Through dedicated practice, Zazen cultivates clarity, presence, and insight, serving as a pathway to deepening one’s understanding of the self and the nature of reality.
