What would it be like to sit with no expectations at all? Check it out. Not as a thought or an idea. Right now as we’re approaching a time to sit, see if you can have no expectations of the upcoming sit.
If you’re feeling like you don’t want to sit, honor that, recognize it, allow it, appreciate it. Then look to see if there’s also some expectation active.
Perhaps you are expecting that this sit will be hard, or maybe you want a certain type of experience. Are you imagining there is some particular way that your sitting should be? If so, what is it?
It’s so helpful to know if something like that is subtly at work within us. Check it out carefully.
Is there in fact a connection between reluctance to sit, and having expectations of the sit? Then, can we release the expectation, let it go?
Instead: I’m going to let this sit be just as it is. Starting now. I’m going to let this moment be just as it is. I release and relinquish my expectations of this moment. I no longer have any expectations of it.
Same with sitting. I release and relinquish all expectations of my sitting.
Try it. See if you can. See what prevents you from doing it easily, if something does. Then let that be. Have no expectation that it be easy to sit without expectations.
