Henry has recently been featured on three podcasts, First Human, ManTalks, and Orthogonal. Links to each podcast and a short description are below. Enjoy…

First Human with Richard Atherton
Finding Zen with Henry Shukman (video version)

Richard Atherton introduces Henry as a man who seems to have led several lives: author, singer and now Zen adept. His battles with severe eczema at an early age, coupled with the break-up on his parents’ marriage, led him on a life-long quest to find relief from his suffering.

After a spontaneous spiritual awakening at the age of 19, followed by a difficult few years, Henry embarked on a long journey of healing and awakening. His Zen quest ultimately led to the international abbot of Sanbo Zen appointing him a teacher in 2010.

Richard and Henry discuss:

– The Zen atheist

– Trauma release and spirituality

– Childrearing for awakening

– The arduous path

ManTalks Podcast: Henry Shukman with Connor Beaton
Zen Awakening: It’s Not What You Think

You hear it all the time: enlightenment, awakening, expansion, liberation. Yadda yadda yadda. But…what is it really? Is it even possible to describe? Connor Beaton sits with acclaimed Zen teacher and poet Henry Shukman to try and get the actual Zen take on things. They dig into Henry’s own spiritual journey, how to meditate in the Zen way, and how chasing after something can sometimes prevent you from ever getting it.

Henry’s struggles as a youth, combined with a spontaneous awakening experience at age 19, paved the way for Henry to develop a well-rounded approach to spirituality and meditation, under the guidance of his teachers – one that includes both compassionate concern for the sufferings of the world and the great liberative power of awakening as its foundations.

Orthogonal: Henry Shukman with Michael Hewett
Zen Graffiti, First Awakenings, and Integrating Unconditional Love

In this episode of Orthogonal, we learn about Henry’s first experience of awakening, talk about what to do after experiences of insight, consider the value of lineage, and discuss the real-world implications of the two truths.
