“… Buddha is showing us who he is by remaining still, showing us the core of our own heart …”
Description: The first part of this talk centers on Case 65, which also appears in the The Gateless Gate. The questions arise: What is a Buddhist? What is a non-Buddhist? What is awakening? In this koan, Buddha is showing us who he is by remaining still, showing us the core of our own heart. The non-Buddhist experiences a sudden awakening. He sees that his construction of reality is a delusion; he sees through it all, that all things are no-thing and one-thing. Henry also explores koan study, as viewed by Master Dahui and explored in an essay written by Robert E. Buswell, Jr., from Sitting with Koans. Of particular note is Dahui’s view that lay life is “the ideal training ground for practice.” All the problems of life are “grist to the mill.”
